This old Provencal town with its medieval castle dominates the plain down to the sea, where the more recent, award winning,'New Venice' town of Port Grimaud was built in the 1960's. Exit from the A8 Motorway at Le Muy or Le Luc (depending on arrival direction) & follow the road through the hills : Direction 'St Tropez'. Nearest rail station: St Raphael for car/train. Nestled between the majestic ridge of the massif des Maures mountains & the azur Mediterranean sea, Grimaud is one of the remaining jewels of unspoiled Provence. It is a rural area, where the vineyards provide the majority of the income thus remaining uniquely picturesque. The Var, known for it's policies for protecting it's heritage, has managed to avoid becoming yet another agglomeration, & remains the garden of Provence since the Roman Empire.

In the village of Grimaud you will find the all necessary small shops...try the unforgettable tartes from the sublime patisserie!! Restaurants are plentiful & cater for every palate. You can buy your newspaper & read it on the terrace of the busy Bistro, or watch the locals play Boules. Throughout the summer season there are an assortment of village activities including weekly nocturnal concerts in the open air amphitheatre & an assortment of village fêtes on national holidays

Wander through the winding cobbled lanes up to the Chateau and marvel at the panoramic view over the rooftops & down to the coast. There is also a tour of the village including the Chapel des Pénitents,(XV1the century) the windmill,(XV11the century) & St Michels church, (dating form the X11th century) & a museum. Grimaud also has a post office, chemist & cash distributor.

The nearest supermarkets are in Cogolin, or la Foux (direction St Tropez), & there is plenty of opportunity for shopping in St Maxime & St Tropez. Every Provençal village has a colourful weekly market.

The nearest beaches at Port Grimaud are 3 km away and within 30 minutes you have yet more beaches at Pampelonne , La Croix Valmer, Gigaro, L'Escalet. You can also take the ferry crossing to one of the islands off the coast & cycle round the car free reserve & discover the countryside as it was 50 yrs ago.
